Davis Point, which is a steep slope that is not in close proximity to any
underground pipelines (see Section 3.1.5).
• Pipelines and Facilities Crossings: Prior to conducting the centerline
survey, crews usually locate buried facilities to avoid damaging them
during the construction process. The Yankee Gulch Project pipelines will
generally cross beneath other pipelines and other utility lines at a 45
degree angle. A backhce and hand labor is used to excavate the pipeline
trench in such areas to allow passage of the new pipeline under the
existing pipelines. Additional TUAs will be necessar;~ for these azeas.
Affected ROW holders will be contacted prior to construction (see Section
3.1.1).
Locations of adjacent pipelines will be confirmed using the One-Call
'system or similaz underground utilities location system. This is intended
to locate all points of intersection with adjacent pipelines by using "pot
holes° to physically expose the pipe. Pot holes will be hand excavated or
dug with a vacuum truck capable of exposing the pipe.. Vacuum trucks
have been used primarily in cleaning manholes for sewer systems but
have also proven effective in locating pipelines.
• Washes and Intermittent Sireams Crossings: Numerous crossings of dry
washes and intermittent stream channels will be trenched using backhce
equipment, where practical. TUAs will be required at each stream or
channel- crossing. If necessary, the banks of larger channels will be
excavated to create a slope gentle enough to allow equipment to progress
to the floor of the wash. Soil will be stockpiled at the top of the banks of
the channel. After the pipe is installed, the soil will be used to restore the
banks of the channel to a stable configuration.
• Perennial Streams and Irrigation Ditch Crossings: Proposed perennial
stream crossing locations include Piceance Creek (two locations), Stewart
Gulch (two locations), and Pazachute Creek (two locations). There will
also be a small wetland crossing in Middle Fork Stewart (sulch. There will
be no "river" crossings for this project.
All of the proposed stream crossings are anticipated to be completed by
open-cut constmclaon using a backhce. It is not anticipated that
conventional bore or horizontal directional drilling would be used for any
of the stream crossings.
The current plan for crossing perennial streams does not rnquire water
diversions. If used, water diversion techniques for stream crossings would
be either ponding or temporary diversion. Each water diversion decision
will be made based on the flow conditions at the time of construction.
•
~Pe~1e rlan or Devek,pment ~
Yankee Gulch Sodium Mv~nak PmjecY
Ametian Soda, LLP.
