Lochhead
Eteculive Dueuor
Michael B. loop
Dnision Diredoi
I have reviewed the stability analysis prepared by Lincoln-Devore, Inc. for existing and
proposed highwall conditions at the 8-Mile Clay Mine. The stability analysis demonstrates
that a factor of safety in excess of 3.4, which is more than adequate, will be met under both
conditions. As such, we eliminate the current stipulation that all exposed highwalls should
be no more than 30 feet in height.
We recommend, however, that the current benching technique be continued in order to
maintain highwalls of less than 40 feet. This will enhance the feasibility of highwall
reclamation to a condition similar to that of the unpermitted pre-law area.
Please call me at 866-3567 if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
GZ~l~2~~~--"'"~/
Thomas A.
