•
•
Summary of Soil and Vegetation Information
The soil cores undertaken by F.M. Fox and Associates show-
ed that approximately 2 feet of topsoil consistantly covered the
• property. On approximately the southern one-third of the proper-
ty this topsoil lies directly on top of the sand and gravel re-
sources, but on the northern two-thirds 1 to 5 feet of intervenes.
ing sandy clayiays atop over the mineable resource. The thick-
• Hess of the resource to bedrock varies from 30-50 feet throughout
most of the property. Ground water was encountered approximately
20 feet below ground level.
The topsoils encountered were of four types - DaA (Dacono
• loam), DaB (Dacono loam), NIA (Nunn loam), and Tc (Terrace Es-
carpments). These soils are classified as being able to support
both irrigated and nonirrigated growth. These soils presently
support irrigated farm products (mainly corn) and have been since
• at least the 1920 's when the Sakaguchis' acquired the property.
A soil map and descriptions are reproduced as figure 2 and on
pages 2 and 3 of the F.M. Fox Report. The original source of
the soil data is "Soil Survey of Adams County, Colorado" publish-
• ed by United Sates Department of Agricultural Experimentation
Station issued October, 1974. This report can be obtained at
108 West Walnut Street, Brighton, Colorado 80601.
Mr. Jeff Burwell of the West Adams Soil Conservation Ser-
• vice was contacted regarding soils information, a vegetation
survey, and a revegetation recommendation. On June 10, 1981 Mr.
Burwell toured the property and also reviewed a copy of the F.M.
Fox Report. The results of his vegetation survey and revegeta-
• tion plan are attached. Basically he found no unique vegetation
that he would recommend saving except two trees which will not
be removed by mining. In terms of revegetation after mining,
he recommended a plan for irrigated and nonirrigated areas which
• is incorporated in the reclamation plans. On the day he toured
the property 40 acres had a "heavy" cover of irrigated corn and
2 acres had a "heavy" cover of grass and weed species.
•
•
•
•
