The information ryas submitted in support of a rcyues[ to treat petroleum con[amiuated soils,
generated in a vehicle maintenance sump at the New Elk Mine, by me:ms of an on-cite landfarming
operation.
The information consists of analytical reports for two samples of the sump soil. The analytical tests
conducted were; volatile organic compounds by EPA method 5260, polychlorinated hiphenyls by EPA
method 3510, total recoverable petroleum hydrocarbons by EPA method 415.1 modified, total metals by EPA
method GOlOA, and total solids by ASTM method D22IG modified. The results indicate that the ma[erinl
contains compounds typically associated with vehicle maintenance activities, in concentrations belrnv
hazardous waste regulatory thresholds.
The material appears to be anon-hazardous solid waste generated at a site operating under a permit issued
pursuant [o the Colorado Mined land Reclamation Act, C.R.S. 34-32-101 e[_seg. As such, [he proposed on-
site treatment is appropriate an(I allowable per the provision of the Colorado Solid Wastes Disposal Sites
and Facilities Act, C.R.S. section 30-20-102(4).
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me at (303) 692-3439.
erely,
Ronald J.
