Cottony
v Atting Division Director
Overburden Stockpile Stability Study `'~
Division of Minerals and Geology staff have completed a geotechnical stability study for the overburden
stockpile placed on the crest of the precipice above the Eagle River, in Phase 2 of the Gypsum Ranch Pit
permit area,
The study indicates that portions of the overburden stockpile are located in an unstable area, failure of
which could lead to off-site damage and significant adverse impacts to the Eagle River. As a result,
DMG is requiring that Lafarge West, Inc. relocate the stockpile to an approved, stable location within the
permit area. Please review the enclosed stability study and submit a revision to the Gypsum Ranch
permit that addresses relocation of all or part of the stockpile, resulting in a stable configuration of the
entire stockpile. This revision can be addressed in the current Amendment No. 1 application process.
If you need additions( information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 South Third Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone no.
970-243-6368.
Sincerely,
,~~~~
Steve S.
