Ossola
with the Las Animas County Planning and Land Use Office. Mr. Ossola has
raised concerns with fugitive coal dust from stockpiles at the Golden Eagle
and New Elk Mines, with dust from haul trucks being deposited on areas near
State Highway 12 between the two mines, and with the possibility of
spontaneous combustion within the stockpiled coal.
The Division will be conducting an inspection of the Golden Eagle and
New Elk Mines later this month to address these issues. We hope to resolve
any potential problems by the end of this month. Please look into these
concerns as soon as you can, and we will discuss them with you during the
inspection. Should you have any questions, please call me or Joe Dudash.
Sincerely,
Daniel I. Hernandez
Senior Reclamation Specialist
DIH/amm
Enclosure(s)
cc: Joseph J.
