Box 359
Keenesburg, Colorado 80643
Re: Fly Ash Disposal at the Keenesburg Mine, File No. C-81-028
Dear Mr. Althouse:
I have contacted Maggie Bierbaum of the Waste Management Branch of the
Colorado Department of Health (CDH) concerning your interest in fly and bottom
ash disposal. From my conversation with her, the solid waste landfill
regulations apply to mines for the disposal of waste if that waste is
generated outside the mine permit boundary. Therefore, Coors will need to
obtain a solid waste landfill permit from the CDH. The Division will work
closely with CDH to review Keenesburg's waste disposal plan. Since disposal
of fly ash will not cause a significant change in the reclamation plan, this
modiFication should be handled as a technical revision. If you have arty
questions, please call Tom or me or if you have specific questions concerning
obtaining a solid waste landfill permit, please call Maggie 6lerbaum or Dennis
Hotovec of CDH.
Sincerely,
Randall P.
