III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
999
~~~ ~~~~
UAR 15 1990
March 13,1990
MINED U1Nr~
Dear Sirs, REC !AAT!~~' r
I am writing this letter in regards to the renewal
of the mine permit for the East side Coal Company of Silt,
Colorado.
At the present time I believe there is a need to
inquire about several facets of this mining operation
1. The ownership of the mine needs to be clearly
specified. Does Superior Western Corporation of Tuacon,
Arizona now have an interest in this mine? Superior Wea.tern
is said to be ~uat a contractor, yet they do issue the
paychecks to the miners working at the mine site. These
paychecks are drawn from Superior Westerns bank in Arizona.
2. The amount of reclamation monies fized to this project
need to be looked at. This renewal does not require an
increase in reclamation funds, yet itta been five years
since this operation began. The original cost estimates to
reclaim this project are clearly out-datedt especially
if the mine were ever to actually produce to capacity.
3. As of March 18th,1990, the mine will no longer
have the necessary county permits to continue operation.
Why were these permits allowed to ezpire?
4. Eastside Coal Company, Abrazas Petroleum, and others
associated with this mine, currently have a mechanics lien
of $14,868.05 filed against them in Garfield County by
Schauenburg FlezaduzxCorporation of C1lfton,Colorado.
Telephone # 434-6808. What effect will this have on the
continued operation of the mine?
5. The current stockpile of coal appears to be
inadequately protected from seepage into the Harvey Gap
drainage.
6. The practice of hauling coal in uncovered trucks
needs to be addressed.
7• A full report on the recent accident at the mine
should be made public.
I believe it to be in the best interests of all
affected reaidente of Garfield County that a p~blio
hearing be held Sn Garfield County before the Mined Land
Reclamation Board. Your consideration in this matter is
important to assure a fair process is achieved.
Sincerely,
Handy Corry
Boa 314
Silt, Colorado 61652
876-2924
~~
