DEFICIENCY AT NEW FIUItIZON ONE
Dear Mr. Ranney:
Western Fucls-Colorado, LI.C, would like to inform Division of Minerals &
Geology that there is a shortage of topsoil at New Horizon 1. The shortage
to date (10-7-93) is apprcximz;zly 34,340 cubic yards over an area of 37.4
acres. WFC has stripped all suitable topsoil as shown in Exhibit 1. in fact,
all e7stra topsoil was stripped in ant.ic:patio^ of a shortfall. The soil map in
the permit (same as Exhibit 1) shows depths of 0.8', 1.2', 2.4', and 4.3'.
WFC experienced a continual decrease of topsoil thickness as removal
proceeded north. By the time County Road 5 was reached, topsoil type
D70B diminished io 2 feet and the other types to a few inches. WFC
believes the shortage of topsoil is due to incorrect soil mapping.
The areas in question were shown to you during the August and September
inspections. WFC and DMG will need to work together when the effected
area is ready to be reclaimed. If you have any questions, please call.
Sincerely,
~~
Ross L.
