BANTA, Dlraetor <br />August 10, 1989 <br />Mr. Luke Danielson, Chairman <br />Mined Land Reclamation Board <br />1775 Sherman, Suite 1875 <br />Denver, CO 80203 <br />Dear Mr. Danielson: <br />At the June 24, 1988 hearing regarding the Snyder Quarry amendment <br />application, the Board asked the Division to conduct an assessment of what <br />criteria would be aDPlicable for reclaiming mined land to a forest. A report <br />dated July 11, 1989 was prepared by staff and delivered to ,you, other Board <br />members and the parties to the hearing stating the results of our assessment. <br />During that assessment we interviewed staff of the Colorado State Forest <br />Service. In the report we stated that if the Board wanted more depth it could <br />solicit testimony from those that were interviewed. Some citizens have asked <br />the Division if somebody from the Colorado Forest Service would be present at <br />the hearing since the State Forest Service was a source of our information. <br />I called Mr. Jim Hubbard, Director of the Colorado State Forest Service, and <br />discussed the matter with him. Mr. Tom Ostermann, a member of his staff, will <br />be present at the August 23 board meeting to respond to questions that the <br />ooard may have regarding the.establisnment and management of forests- This <br />would include questions pertaining to tree establishment and stocking density <br />at the Snyder Quarry site. <br />At the board meeting the board will need to decide whether it neeas to or <br />wants to nave him testify and respond to questions.
