(BMRI) -San Luis
DMG Permit No. M-88-112
Dear Mr. Dillie:
64TIlE MOIINWN
GOLD COA~ANV
As I had mentioned to you many months ago, the Costilla Soil Conservation District has requested that
BMRI get involved with controlling several drainages to the Rito Seco, on and off Battla Mountain
property. These drainages have been in place prior to BMRI's arrival. Many of the problems stem from
the extensive road system throughout the Forbes-Trinchera property. Bill Gran of the Shalom Ranch
and Battle Mountain have been working together with the Costilla Soil Conservation D strict (CSCD) to
try and control these drainages. One Y-shaped drainage is located on BMRI property, a few on Shalom
Ranch property, and one on another owner's property.
BMRI is looking at the possibility of volunteering equipment and operators to help in controlling these
drainages. The CSCD is working on getting a grant to pay for most of the work and equipment. The
work is scheduled to be conducted in phases. Phase 1 consists of work on drainages on BMRI Property
and consists of seven earthen dams with culverts to slow down passing water (Jursidic;tional or Erosion
Control Dams). These dams range in height from 10 to 15 feet depending on the drainage area
I have enclosed the specifications and application required for these earthen dams as determined by the
Division of Water Resources and the CSCD. Also enclosed are five copies of aerial ptlotos depicting the
drainages, phases, and locations of the earthen dams. BMRI is requesting permissior from the Division
of Minerals and Geology to complete these earthen dams, as specified in Phase 1. If (here is more
information necessary for the approval process on this matter, please call.
Sincerely,
Sally .Kaiser
Environmental Engineer
Enclosures
cc: Anne Baldrige
Dan Robertson
P.O.
