Dept. of Naturzl icesources
Enclosed is a table listing certain grass, forb, and shrub species proposed
to be seeded in 1986. The listed species are a partial list of the total soecies
we plan to seed. These species must be ordered from our seed supply vendors at
least a Eull year in advance. Therefore, your prompt review and approval would
be greatly appreciated.
Please note that a new species has been added to range site A and B seed
mixes. The species is martin ceanothus. A data sheet on the shrub has been
enclosed for your review. If successfully established, this species will
increase the shrub diversity on the A and B range sites. Also, since it is con-
sidered good deer and elk browse, it will eventually enhance the quality of for-
age on these sites.
Also, changes have been made to species available Eor our use on tables
3.6-7, 3.6-9, 3.6-10, 3.6-11 and 3.6-12. Therefore, this correspondence should
be considered a request for a minor revision to our per,nit CO-010-81.
On Tables 3~6-7 and 9, Bromus carinatua was changed to Bromus marginatus.
This was an error in the original table. Species B. marginatus is the species we
have had approved by your office over the past few years.
In Table 3.6-7 (shrub section), we have added Artemisia cans and ceanothus
martini. A. cans is presently used in other mixes at our mine with moderate suc-
cess. C. martini is a new addition and will be evaluated starting in 1987 for
seeding response. C. martini has also been added to the shrub section of Table
3.6-9. Again, these additions should enhance our shrub diversity on range sites
A and B.
Table 3.6-10 is a seed list intended for temporary stabilization of disturbed
areas which may have little or no topsoil present. To this table, we have added
Sanguisorba minor under forbs. Two additional shrubs have been added - Artemisia
cars and A. frigid:. The shrub species presently listed with the exception of A.
tridentate have no~. responded well. S. minor has been a good soil stabilizer
species at the mine. Therefore, it was added to the seed mix list for temporary
stabilization of disturbed areas.
P.O. Box 187 Craig, Colorado 81626 (303) 824-4401
