It should be noted that permitting for the Seneca II-W Mine requires that
weed control be exercised not only on the mine site but on the rights-of--way of constructed
roads and county roads used as haul roads.
Planning Activity Nos. PP 1995-013, PP2003-013 & PP2003-044 - Yoast Mine
Weed Control: Matt Custer, Routt County Weed Control, has indicated that noxious weeds
are a problem on this and other sites operated by Seneca. A copy of Mr. Ouster's
correspondence with the Planning Department is included with this letter. Correction of the
noxious weed problem in compliance with current standards for this and other Seneca sites is
outlined below.
_ Obviouslys_the overriding_issue on ali of_these permits.is_the_current,lack.of_appropriate noxious
weed control. Recent permitting on the Yoast Mine (Planning Activity Nos. PP2003-013 & PP2003-
044) require that a Management Plan be submitted and approved by the Matt Custer, Routt County
Weed Supervisor. Due to the similarity of the area and operations under each of the referenced
permits, it appears that a single approved Management Plan and the implementation of the measures
called for therein on all of Seneca's permitted operations could cover the stated concerns.
It is requested that a Management Plan be submitted to and approved by the Routt County Weed
Supervisor within the next ninety (90) days. The Management Plan should appropriately address the
measures which Seneca will be taking to manage noxious weed on mine properties and constructed
roads and county roads used as haul roads in accordance with your permit requirements. Prior to
submitting the Management Plan, I suggest that you coordinate with Mr. Custer. He can be reached
at (970)870-5246 after September 25th,
Thank you for your prompt attention.
:map
Enclosures
xo: file
Matt Custer, Routt County Weed Supervisor
Division of Minerals & Geology (Re: Permit No. C-1980-005, C-1982-057, C-1994-082)
Staff Planner
