4
1995 RECLAMATION SAMPLING
The number of transects per parcel will be determined by
proportional allocation. From previous sampling experience the
baseline figure of one transect per two acres will be used.
Each parcel will have transect locations selected using a
numbered grid system. The numbered grid will be placed over the
map of each individual parcel. Random number sets representing the
x and y coordinates will be used to pin-point the starting location
of each transect. Another set of random numbers will be generated
to orient the direction of the transect. These numbers range from
0 to 360 degrees and determine compass direction. Random numbers
are derived from a random number table and/or the random number key
of a calculator.
All transect positions and orientations will be plotted in the
office prior to field work. This should eliminate any bias in the
data collection.
Once the field work has been completed and data analyzed,
sample adequacy will be computed for the entire Mine 3 Block N. If
sample adequacy is not reached more transects will be allocated in
the same method as stated above. Proportional allocation will be
used only until the desired sample adequacy is achieved.
Therefore, there may be some discrepancies as to number of
transects per acre. This method is a reflection of a limited field
season and time constraints, not any bias of the operator.
Mine 3 Block N has three parcels in which the transects will
be systematically allocated. This is due to the size and nature of
those parcels. RCIO-4 is too small to use the grid system. The
long, narrow shape of parcels RDIB-1 and QKI1-5 makes the use of a
grid impractical for use of random allocation. This is a total of
five transects.
3) BLOCK F
Computer Area
Code
Seeding Acres # of
Date
MFL6-2 OVB #1 12/81 6.2 2
MGK36-9 OVB #1 11/82 36.9 9
MHL25-3 OVB #1 12/83 25.3 6
JHJ30-5 51 E 10/83 30.5 8
JIFB-5 51 E 6/84 8.5 2
JJF4-2 51 E 6/85 4.2 1
JJF17-3 51 E 6/85 17.5 4
JJJ20-1 51 E 10/85 20.1 5
TOTAL: 149.0 37
-_~~
