Long
D wiSinn DirPCl nl
The Division of Minerals and Geology is planning the reclamation
work at the Hawk's Nest Mine this fall. In my last letter, I
mentioned that part of Old Highway 133 may be closed temporary
during the demolition of the coal silos. In your letter dated June
24, 1993, you expressed concern that the roadway is used to access
a mine site, and some type of provision will need to be addressed.
Both mines in the vicinity, West Elk and Somerset have been
notified of the proposed demolition and the partial closure of old
highway 133. Please note that the road will be closed only at the
west end of the highway, and both operators will be able to access
the mines through their main entry.
With the demolition of the coal silos, a portion of the old highway
may be damaged and require repair. The Division is requesting from
your department, construction and repair specifications to repair
the potentially damaged highway. These specifications will be used
by the awarded contractor for repair at the completion of the
project.
The Division anticipates demolition work to be conducted in mid-
November to December. Please send the repair specifications to the
Division as soon as possible.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please do
not hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
S.
Erica S.
