Long
Drvnron Direcra
Holaam, Iac., Slab Caayoa Quarry, File
The conclusion is drawn in the ceotechnical Engineerinc Report submitted in support of
the Slab Canyon Quarry amendmen app >_ca , e proposed load-out benches will
be stable. Thies conclusion is contingent upon compliance with the earthwork
recommendations included in the report. In accordance with those recamnendatione, the
applicant shoo ld epecif ically commit to:
1. Place and compact load-out bench fill i'n horizontal lifts not to exceed 2 feet
in loose thickness.
2. Complete density testing of sufficient frequency to demonstrate that load-out
bench fill is compacted to minimum 85 percent of StandaEd Proctor~0eneity.
3. complete gradation testing and material classification in sufficient frequency
to demonstrate that load-out bench fill does not vary appreciably tram the
samples tested for material strength properties.
4. ~ Exerc iae Buff icient control over placement of load-out bench fill to assure that
the fill does not contain organic, plaet is (clays, topsoil, etc.), frozen, or
other deleterious materials.
5. Provide adequate drainage to direct eu rface water around the out=elope of the
load-out benches.
Z have not provided a required frequency for density or gradation test ittt), or materials
classification, because these need to be Bite specific determinations. For example,
if the operator can show that a epecif ie compaction methodology (e.g. x number of
passes with a loaded haul truck, or track walking with a certain size dozer) results
in the required minimum density, and if the fill is consistent in material propert ice,
the frequency of density teat ing could he low. If the fill ie not cone iatent, a much
higher frequency of testing and classification would be indicated.
The operator should provide as-built drawings and narrative, in terms o1° the foregoing
list of items, in the annual reports for the Slab Canyon Quarry. These annual report
inclusions would be required during each year that load-out benches are constructed.
C:\Wp51\SLAH.GCS
