SPECIAL CONDITIONS New Pryor Strip Mine Project RN-MINES-265 PROJECT LOCATION The project is located a gjacent to the town of Pryor, approximately 9 miles southeast of Walsenburg, Huerfano County, Colorado, at an average elevation of 6500 feet. The project area is in the SW 1/4 Section 19, T29S, R65W, of the 6th P.M. WORK SUMMARY The New Pryor Strip mine is located immediately southwest of the town of Pryor, Colorado which is historically the site of minor underground mining of bituminous coal from the Upper Cretaceous Vermejo formation in the Walsenburg Coal Field. More recently, coal extraction in the vicinity has been by strip-pit methods requiring overburden removal prior to pit development. The project is designed to improve the land use of this previously mined area through highwall reduction and recontouring. In addition, off-site migration of sediment will be controlled. The project will include the backfilling and surface grading of an abandoned coal strip-pit site of approximately 17 acres. Coal spoil, overburden, and subsoil existing on-site will be backfilled into 3 distinct open pits and brought to grade with topsoil, also existing on site. It is anticipated that all required fill is available on the project site at this time. In addition, an existing sediment retention pond will be upgraded and a drainage channel constructed to utilize this upgrades sediment pond. Upon completion of backfilling, grading and sediment pond construction, the property will be revegetated. PRE-BIU MEETING/SITE SHOWING A manaatory pre-bid meeting and site showing will be held at Pryor Townsite, located approximately 1.25 miles west of Interstate 25 on Rouse Rd.; accessed at the Pryor Interchange, 7.5 miles south of 'dalsenburg (See pre-bid location map). This mandatory meeting will take place on April 23, 1991 at 9:30 A.M. The Pre-Bid Meeting is for the purpose of showing prospective bidders the work site and vicinity. Bidders are advised to be prompt. Failure to attand the entire meeting will be cause for rejection of a bid.
