BANTA, Dlrsetor
DATE: June 30, 1989
T0: Susan Mowry -
6
FROM: Carl Mount
RE: Possible areas that could be reclaimed with IML Funds,
Peabody Coal Company, Seneca II Mine, Permit C-80-005
There are some areas at the Seneca II Mine on which inadequate vegetative
cover now exists. These areas may be eligible to be reclaimed with ItAL
funds. All were mined previous to 1976 and exist to the east and slightly
south of the present office/shop area. The Wolf Creek coal seam was mined
in these areas so much of the regraded spoil exhibits acidic and/or sodic
properties with consequent typical vegetation effects. In some places there
is a complete absence of vegetation.
I have available in my office two resources which will help identify these
areas:
1. A "Chronological Topsoil Replacement Map" submitted by Peabody
on November 3, 1988.
2. An aerial photo (scale: 1" = 400') of the Seneca II Mine dated
July 23, 1975.
/en
7738E
215 Centennial Building, 1373 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203.2273 Tel.
