M ~
Mr. Randy Price 6 J.A.Pendleton
May 14, 1986
page 2
On a long range outlook, our plans to deal with these slides fol-
lows the philosophy that we are entering our mine through a win-
dow in an existing landslide area. This protective window is
formed by a resistant outcropping sandstone formation. In
general the slides have been moving during wet weather cycles in
the north fork valley over the most recent epoch of geologic
time. We feel this is a normal landforming process of nature, and
we cannot stop it but must learn to work around it.
The slide material is to wet to work at this time without bogging
down equipment and possibly triggering further movement. From
past experience we believe it will be late June or early July
before any construction work can begin. we do intend to install
some measures of protection during the coming construction
season.
As was mentioned above we have not finished analyzing our
alternatives. When we know specifically what we want to do, we
will contact you again. We do feel that after the construction
work has been completed, that a cover of a grass seed mix will
stabilize the slope. A more extensive re vegetation program would
be premature because of the potential for the surface to move
again during the next wet spring season.
If we can answer any further questions please contact us.
Sincerely
~1~~
C.G. Hansen
Mine Engineer
