• native species, adequate species diversity, high levels of utility for livestock and wildlife, good <br />forage production potential, compatibility with namtally regenerating native species present in <br />replaced topsoil, and the ability to be self-sustaining or compliment successional processes in <br />the reclaimed plant communities. Attainment of these goals, in tum, facilitates achievement of <br />the post mining land uses. <br />Seed Mix No. 1 (Table f) has been designed fot all reclaimed upland sites and ephemeral <br />drainages on the mine area. The 23 species contained in the mix are adapted to a broad range <br />of site conditions. <br />Seed Mix No. 2 (Table 2) is used in areas that are likely to have wet or potentially wet site <br />conditions such as the reclaimed haul road areas aloag the Dty Creek drainage and tributaries <br />to Huberson Gulch. Additional sites where this mix may be used aze the vicinity of Ponds 005 <br />and 006 and any other permanent ponds. The species listed in the mix provide the basis for <br />redevelopment of mesic site or riparian communities. Native species, which are not available <br />as seed or seedlings, will reestablish in reasonable time frames because of the availability of <br />native plant seed sources in the close proximity of the reclaimed azeas. <br />Concentrated shrub seeding (Table 3) is the preferred method of shmb establishment based on <br />existing monitoring results. Some species, however, aze planted as tubelings, ie. Gambel oak, Aspen, <br />Mountain Mahogany Serviceberty, Chokecherry, Currant, and Woods Rose (Table 4). Within the <br />mined azea, shrub seeded azeas aze approximately one to three acres in size and aze placed <br />throughout the mined land in sites selected for their, favorable moisture, aspect, and soil depth <br />characteristics. <br />• The shrub seeding azeas aze seeded with the concentrated shrub mix only. By limiting the amount of <br />herbaceous species to be re-seeded into these shrub seeding azeas, SCC has limited the competition <br />and improved shrub speces survival <br />Within and adjacent to the peraut area, large tracts of natural terrain aze left untouched to provide a <br />close and viable native seed source for future succession stages to progress on the mined land. These <br />islands provide excellent wildlife habitat and cover, see additional wildlife photos at the end of this <br />presentation. <br />• <br />
