This mine is permitted and operated by Seneca Coal Company
(Seneca), in Routt County Colorado.
The Division endorses this nomination. The aspen research effort undertaken at Seneca
II-W has the potential to guide future reclamation in aspen habitats in Colorado and the
wider region. The operational implementation of vazious state of the art strategies to
enhance successful establishment of the native shrub component is noteworthy. Finally,
the long-term commitment to awell-designed and consistently implemented program of
vegetation monitoring on the reclaimed azeas at Seneca II-W and other Seneca operations
in northwest Colorado is commendable. The program has provided, and will continue to
provide, valuable information regarding initial success or failure of various reclamation
practices, as well as a solid foundation for assessing long-term trends for the revegetated
plant communities.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
lager
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
