Description of the Operations and Reclamation Plan
Underground room and pillar methods will be used to mine the two fault
blocks delineated on Map 2. of this document. The third fault block,
located on the northeast portion of the permit area, was originally
intended to be mined but during Permit Renewal No. 1 application, this
area was dropped from consideration. Of the three coal seams in the
area, only the Lower Pinnacle seam will he mined.
No additional surface disturbance is proposed at the Apex No. 2 Mine,
The existing disturbance is 5.6 acres which includes the existing portal
and surface facilities and includes the office, shop, bathhouse, coal
stockpile area, tipple, conveyor, exhaust fans, access roads, drainage
ditches and the sedimentation pond.
When mining ceases for this operation, the portals will be sealed and
backfilled and the bench area will be graded to a stahle configuration.
Sunland will distribute a suitable plant growth medium on the regraded
surface. The area will be seeded and mulched to establish a vegetation
cover consistent with the anticipated postmining land use of grazing and
wildlife habitat.
-6-
