~. <br />3.1 GROUNDWATER IMPACT'S <br />The extraction of gzavel and other products from the bed of the South <br />Platte River or its tributaries shall be done in such a manner as to <br />prevent damage to adjoining property. This requires that the adjacent <br />groundwater table not be altered or if alteration takes place the <br />owner of any groundwater rights shall be compensated commensurate with <br />any damage which may occur. It also requires the compliance with ap- <br />plicable Colorado water laws and regulations governing injury to <br />existing water rights as well as the compliance with applicable fede- <br />ral and Colorado water quality laws and regulations. <br />3.2 SIDIMENT TRANSPORT <br />The instream gravel pits may result in the deposition of significant <br />portions of the sediment load carried by the South Platte River or its <br />tributaries. The gravel operator must show that his mining will not <br />adversely affect the stability of the river or a stream downstream <br />from his site. <br />3.3 TITER QUALITY <br />Long range water quality concerns can be significant in an instream <br />gravel pit lake because of pollution constituents in the river at the <br />location of the excavation. Any operations in the river shall be <br />required to comply with applicable federal and Colorado water quality <br />laws and regulations. <br />3.4 SIDESLOPE PROTECTION <br />Excavation of materials from the bed of the South Platte River must be <br />done in a manner which does not jeopardize the stability of the chan- <br />nel banks.
