CHAPTER 1.0 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />1.1 TITLE <br />These technical review guidelines together with all future am°.ndments <br />shall be known as "Technical Review (sidelines for Gravel Mining Acti- <br />vities Within or Adjacent to 100-year Floodplains" (hereafter called <br />"Guidelines"). <br />1.2 JURISDICTION <br />These Guidelines shall apply to all proposed gravel mining operations, <br />or any other excavation below the normal water level of the 100-year <br />floodplain, or within 500 feet of the low flow channel if outside the <br />100-year floodplain of the South Platte River and its tributaries <br />within the Urban Drainage 6 Flood Control District (hereinafter called <br />the "District"). <br />1.3 PURPOSE <br />Presented in these Guidelines are the minimum requirements proposed <br />for gravel mining operations located in or adjacent to 100-year flood- <br />plain within the District. It is the intent of these Guidelines to <br />help protect property owners adjacent to rivers and streams from un- <br />reasonable hazard resulting from river or stream instabilities. These <br />Guidelines were originally designed to protect South Platte River and <br />related properties and infrastructure from adverse impacts resulting <br />from the extraction of gravel in or near the river by providing guide- <br />lines for maintaining its stability and protecting overbank areas from <br />catastrophic failure.
