The Water Quality Control Division takes your comments seriously and we have loa~ked into your
concerns.
It is our understanding that you are concerned that the mine delvatering activities at the Varra Sand and Gravel Pit
#115 (Kurtz Resource Recovery and Land Development Project, COG-0500356) are impacting your private well in
the vicinity of the Pik On August 12, 2002, Division staff wnducted a site inspection at the facility. The results of
the inspection conclude that the issues identified in your letter fall within the regulatory authority of the Colorado
Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG), rather than the Water Quality Control Division. We understand that GRIP
has been in contact with Mr. Cazl Mount of the DMG. Based on the field inspection conducted at this facility, there
are no operational issues that would prevent renewal of the CDPS Sand and Gravel general pemlit, COG-0500000.
Thank you for taking the time to comment on the renewal of the general permit. We encourage you to continue your
discussions with the DMG, and if you have any questions about the inspection that was conducted on the facility,
please contact Mr. Mike Havens, P.E. at 970-248-7147.
Sincerely,
t .
Susan Robinette, Permits Unit Manager
Water Quality Control Division
Cc: Carl Mount, Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203
Weld County Commission, P.O.
