ZCCS
o::~i~ t ..: ~ :............ .
May 19, 2005
Cotter Corporation has received the final analytical results of the SPLP test, per the
amendment review of Permit No. M-1978-116, dated November 5, 2004 on the surface
ore stockpile material at the SM-18/Wright Mine portal area. These preliminary results
were attached to the letter accompanying the results of the waste rock SPLP test sent to
you last week. Ore production began in mid-March, and a sample of the ore being placed
in the surface stockpile was collected April 13, 2005 and submitted for SPLP analyses.
The ore sample is from mined rock from the upper sandstone unit of the Salt Wash
member of the Morrison formation. The ore sample was collected randomly around the
ore stockpile. Grabs were taken from the pile side (at angle of repose) as well as where a
loader had dug into the pile creating a much steeper face, near the center of the pile. This
sample consisted of material ranging from fine sand to rocks up to about 2 inches. The
ore is fairly friable, therefore, no large rocks or fragments of large rocks were included in
the sample.
The parameters that were analyzed were discussed with you in our March 1, 2005
telephone conversation. These are the parameters from CDPHE Water Quality
Commission Regulation No. 35, for the Lower Dolores River Basin. The reporting limits
Cotter requested from the lab are based on hardness of the river water equal to 100 mg/l.
This hazdness value was used based on discussions with Umetco Minerals personnel
involved in sampling of the San Miguel River both up and down stream of the location of
the SM-18/Wright Mine portal.
r ~y~/ fCottC~poration - est Slope Operations Telephone (970) 864-7347
'-`-P:O' oB z 700-28 5~D Road, Nucla, CO 81424 USA Fax (970) 864-7287
