III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Govei
DEPARTMENT OFNATURALRESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Director
DATE: August 9, 1989
T0: Cathy Begej
FROM: Matt Hayes ~~ ~
RE: Bear Mine #3 B-seam Overburden Analyses: Response to Stipulation 26
of Minor Revision 5 (MR-05).
Bear Coal Company has submitted the results of lab analyses for four
overburden samples. One sample each was taken from the B-seam floor coal and
the roof rock overlying the B-seam. This exceeds Bear Coal's committment
associated with t4inor Revision 6 to collect a single sample from Ramp 2. The
two samples taken from the temporary waste pile probably represent samples of
waste material from the driving of Ramp 4, though C-seam waste material is
also present as the base of this pile. The samples represent Bear Coal
Company's effort to comply with Stipulation 26 of 14inor Revision 5. The cover
letter to the revision called for two samples from the pile while the
stipulation itself called for samples of the B-seam floor coal and the roof
rock overlying the B-seam. Bear Coal tested each sample for all parameters
that were required by Stipulation 26. Thus Bear Coal has satisfactorily
complied with Stipulation 26 and the committment associated with Minor
Revision 6.
My preliminary review of the Bear Coal submitted revealed the following:
1. A CMLRD sample taken 3/2/89 was tested for the following parameters which
were not included in the Bear analyses. The Division did not require the
testing of any of these parameters.
Potassium
Cation Exchange Capacity
Exchangeable Sodium Percent
Ammonia as N
Chloride
Nitrogen, Total
Organic Matter
Phosphorus, Total
Carbonate, Total
+2 mm material
Aluminum
Barium
Chromium
Nickel
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203.2273 Tel.
