Reporting Period October 28, 1997 -November 3, 1997
Dewatering Borehole Road: Final grading and initial base course placement for the revised access
road alignment is complete. Minor water seepage continues on the east side cut slope as reported
previously. Survey monuments installed above the cut slope and french drain show a very minor
northward creep. Monitoring will continue.
Substation Slope: Visual observations and survey data for the slope above the substation indicate
movement is continuing at a slow and gradual pace, with incremental movements decreasing over time.
No advancement of the head scarp further upslope and into the Landing #2 Road was observed. The
completed mid-slope french drain appears to be functioning effectively. Three inclinometers have been
installed in the vicinity if the substation within the last week. The midslope inclinometer/piezometer set
described last week was drilled to a (bedrock) depth of 50 feet. A second inclinometer, installed on the
Landing #2 Road above the slide area, only reached 19 feet depth before encountering bedrock. A third
inclinometer, installed to the east of the substation near the last transmission line angle point, only
reached 24 feet depth before encountering bedrock. Initial monitoring of all of these inclinometers will
occur this week.
Shaft Site # 1 and #2: The compacted soil buttress installed to stabilize the shallow slope failure on
the steep cut slope south of Shaft # I was observed on November 3. The buttress appears solid and no
new movement was visually detected. Slopes to the east side of the buttress area, and the surficial slide
area reported on last week also appeaz stable. All slopes were hydroseeded during the week. Visual
monitoring and collection of surface survey data will continue.
if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at (970) 929-2207.
Sincerely,
~,
Eric W.
