The mine has temporarily ceased production.
All underground mining activities were suspended on December 31,
1995. Basin Resources is currently in the process of attempting to
sell the mine and associated facilities. At this time, there are
no definite plans for resumption of mining. The stockpiled raw
coal inventory will be hauled to the New Elk Mine for processing.
Since this will continue on a periodic rather than continuous
basis, it is anticipated to take until the end of February to
deplete the inventory.
During the temporary cessation, all monitoring will continue
as per the approved permit until revised through the normal permit
revision process. There will only be limited reclamation
activities during the cessation. These activities will include
drill site and refuse outslope reclamation. The shafts and slope
entrances are scheduled to remain open until a decision is made to
permanently seal.
At this time there has been approximately 1200 acres of mined
area at the Golden Eagle Mine. Approximately 70 acres of surface
has been disturbed. The 1995 Annual Reclamation Report summarizes
the reclamation to date.
Please call if you require additional information or have any
questions.
Sincerely,
~_~
R~~ ez
P
Environmental Engineer
