The two sites are on the same creek, and in close proximity to each other, but their ease of
accessibility varies significantly. The original sampling site was becoming increasingly difficult to reach.
You had asked last fall if a change in sampling locations could be approved. The Division's response was that if
the sample results from the two sites were compazable, for a full cycle of two sampling times, the change would be
approvable. This office has approved the modification of the surface water sampling site. The new site, referred to
as the "cabin" site, will become the approved surface water sampling site. (The approved groundwater sampling
site is still the "Adit #1.")
Please be reminded that the Environmental Protection Plan (EPP) for this permit still requires continued water
sampling. Samples from both of these sites are still required to be performed in the proper season, for the set of
parameters to be analyzed, and the results forwarded to this office in a timely manner.
If you have any questions, I may be reached at the Division's Durango field office: 701 Camino del Rio, Room
125, Durango, CO 81301; telephone 970-247-5193.
Sincerely,
Bob Oswald
Environmental Protection Specialist
Ec: Tony Waldron, DRMS
David Berry, DRMS
C:\incas new wq site appr/rco
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines
