Persons responsible for on-the-ground reclamation:
Billy Nicholson, Reclamation Supervisor
Forrest Luke, Environmental Manager
Larry Henderson, Senior Environmental Engineer
Trapper Mine was honored to receive on June 21, 1991 an Excellence in Surface Coal Mining and
Reclamation award from OSMRE. That award was in recognition of Trapper's exemplary reclamation efforts
with regard to postmine stream channel stabilization and wildlife habitat improvement. The intent of this
award application is to demonstrate that the reclamation measures honored in 1991 have continued to prove
effective and beneficial over the long-term, and to discuss new innovations and improvements that have
occurred at Trapper since 1991.
Trapper Mine is proud of its reclamation performance and encourages public tours through the local Chamber
of Commerce in Craig, CO. In past years thousands of people, young and old, have visited our mine. We
also continue to actively share in the exchange and transfer of the reclamation technologies we have
developed.
The enclosed narrative highlights two primary activities: (1) the design and implementation of innovative
sediment and erosion control practices, and (2) successful wildlife habitat improvement practices.
