_24_
• No wells or springs were identified in :funoer Canyon and no ground water rights
have been adjudicated within a three-mile radius of the 1!unger Canyon i4ine.
There is, therefore, no potential for damage to the quality and quantity of
ground water aquifers in the mine plan and general areas.
The Loma Zoadout is situated within the D6RGw Railroad right-of-way. it
occupies an area ,historically used for Ioading sugar beets onto railroad cars.
The area of the loadout is approximately 5.6 acres.
AZZ surface water from the Zoadout will be contained on-site, Due to the Zow
precipitation experienced in the area (8.8 inches), minimal accumulations of
runoff at the site are expected. The loadout will not be used for an extended
period of time. Production from the McClave Canyon and Munger Canyon mines is
anticipated to increase to the point that a greater capacity facility will be
required.
Due to the small area, low precipitation and short life of the .'acility, little
effect on the Zoca1 hydrologic balance is anticipated. There are also no
operations in the area of the loadout that would produce a cumulative effect
on the hydrologic balance (the facility is approximately 9 miles from any
mines).
Surface water wi1I be monitored upstream and downstream of the disturbance of
the .Hunger Canyon drainage and along East Salt Creek above and below the conflu-
ence with Munger Canyon. Alluvial ground water will be monitored downgradient
• of the proposed :/aste disposal pile in t-finger Canyon and in the Salt Creek
alluvium upgradient and downaradient of the confluence wi th ,Hunger Canyon.
Ground water inflows into the mine workings will be. monitored to determine
quantity, quality and source of the ground water. The monitoring program w•'11
indicate if any change in surface water and ground water quantity and quality
occur as a result of the operation.
Once coal production has ceased, the disturbance will be regraded, topsoiled
and revegetated. .Ater successful reclamation is achieved, the hydrologic
functions of the area wi21 be restored.
Cumulati m Impacts Assessment
The impacts due to the ;9cClane Canyon and 4funger Canyon nines will act cumula-
tively on the East Salt Creeic hydrologic system.
