I have arrived at
this decision on my own after giving this idea considerable thought. As you miay
know [have devoted my entire adult life, some 26 years now, as a small miner and
environmentalist at Caribou, Colorado. A very unique situation recently developed
with the + 1,200 acre's that Hendricks Mining Co. controls at Caribou. I reached an
agreement on September 19, 1996 with Hendricks Minerals Canada, Ltd. to
personally acquire back all the assets of Hendricks Mining Co.'s Caribou holdings.
This transaction requires me to give up over 2.3 million shares of free trading
Hendricks Minerals stock and obligate myself to make two cash payments over the
next two year period. As a result, for the first time in history one person owns and
controls the bulk of the land in and around Caribou. Many people Dave tried
unsuccessfully to accomplish this task including Robert Dun founder of Dun and
Bradstreet in IVew York, between the years 1875 and 1905.
Anyway, I have a proposal for Boulder County to seriously consider. I would
agree to sell to the Parks and Open Space Department all of the land holdings I now
control at Caribou for open space. This would include Caribou Flats, which I own
personally, a large 165 acre meadow which has scenic views of the Indian Peaiks,
meadows and small wet lands, all home to significant wildlife. Caribou Mountain,
Goat Hill, significant portions of Idaho Hill, Caribou Park, Klondike Mountain and
the historic Caribou Town site.
I propose to build a visitors center/nature center in the old stone buildings in the
Caribou Town site as part of this sale. Construction of which would be a joint
pl:mning and review process with the Land Use Office, Historic Preservation ]Board,
Parks and Recreation Department and the Forest Service. All of our mine buildings
would be taken down and complete reclamation would occur at the Cross Gold
Mine, Caribou Silver Mine, Idaho Hill Mines and the Aquarius Mines. This Nould
be under the approval and guidance of the State Division of Minerals and Geology,
the Land Use office and myself. 1 would directly be incharge of this reclamation
program and would like to employ both volunteers, students and paid employee's
during the summer and fall months of 1997 and 1998 to complete these reclamation
tasks. This would include the concrete sealing of the Cross Gold Mine under a
carefidly engineered program with the State.
Mall(ng Address: Post Office Box 653-Caribou • Nederland, Colorado 80x66-0653
Mine 303-258-3806 FaX>t303-458-0404
