As you know, this year (2005) is
Year Nine of the Ten Year Reclamation Liability Period and vegetation sampling and
study is required as approved for the Kerr reclamation plan. The veg sampling is most
effective during July and was scheduled accordingly.
The livestock gazing practice by the rancher has (as it was this season) started
grazing the azea east of the mine site during early June. Then they move the cattle to the
pastures north of the mine; then to the southwest and on azound south of and beyond the
mine. Once the cattle graze through the pastures east and north of the mine site (June -
July) the distance is too great to economically move the cattle back to the area to graze
the mine site. Accordingly, when the Kerr vegetation sampling was completed, Kerr
contacted the Silver Spur Ranch and they stated the cattle were not available to graze the
mine site this season due to timing as explained above.
Historically, during winter months, Elk herds numbering from 150 to 300 plus
have grazed through the mine site - -presumably, they will continue to some degree but
scheduling Animal Units per Month (AUM's) concerning the Elk would seem difficult.
If you have any questions/comments on the matter, please contact me.
Sincerely,
orge .Patterson
Gen Mine Manager
