Henderson Mill. Climax
Molybdenum Company. Permit No. M-1977-342
Type of Interaction: Meeting Phone Other
Person(s) contacted and affiliation: Erich Bower, Environmental Coordinator. Henderson blSll.
303/569-3221 ext. 2214
Summary and Resolution of Interaction: Voice mail from Erich Bower on two subjects:
1. Planning underway to install ground water interception wells below l-Dam. Questions about permitting aspects
to incorporate interceptor wells into ground water protection section of the reclamation permit. This can be
managed as a TR, Rule 3.1.7(5). Interceptor wells would be considered practice-based permit conditions
protective of ground water, Rule 3.1.7(2)(a). Necessary to evaluate interaction of alluvial and bedrock aquifer
as a component of the design phase for interceptor system, see Division's adequacy review 1 or TR-O5.
2. Topsoil salvage to occur in upper tailing basin during summer 2001. Considerations relative to stockpiling
locations and potential for stockpiles to interfere with potential future location of milVtailing water barge pump
(to replace current decant system). Reference Rule 3.1.9:
(3) Topsoil stockpiles shall be stored in places and configurations to minimize erosion and located in areas where
disturbance by ongoing mining operations will be minimized. Such stockpile areas must be included in the
affected areas and subject to all reclamation requirements. The Board may require imrr~~ediate planting of
and annual and/or perennial on topsoil stockpiles for the purpose of stabilization.
(4) Once stockpiled, the topsoil shall be rehandled as little as possible until replacement on the regraded,
disturbed area. Relocations of topsoil stockpiles on the affected land require Board or Office approval.
Approval in most cases would be granted by way of technical revision.
Required action: re[um phone call on Monday, February 19, 2001 or Tuesday, February 20, 2001 (Mr. Bower does
not work Fridays and may no[ be in Monday, which is a holiday).
c:\windows\personalVrenderson interceptor wells.doc ~t C / n~/I ~~,~/~'~'
