Robert Liddle
Gentlemen:
I have reviewed the two memorandums from Mike Savage to Bob Liddle
concerning the proposed temporary revegetation seed mix and the response
to our position on the four Permit sti~~ulations relative to vegetation.
I would like to comment further on two of these issues as well as furn-
ish our response to Stipulation 3, spoil well in Pit R.
Temporary Revegetation Seed tlix
The seed mix proposed by Coors was determined unsuitahle by MLRD
because three of the five grasses (crested wheatgrass, pubescent wheat-
grass and smooth broine are introduced species. Coors' vegetation con-
sultant, Mr. Don Hyde r, advises that these three species are exactly the
three that make the proposed mix reasonable and worthwhile for seeding
with little or no irrigation water.
A request has already been made to ~•1LRD and approved for using
these three species as components in the per,~anent reclamation revege-
tation seed mix. Justification was presented according to criteria
established in Section 4.15.2 of the Regulations as follows:
The introduced species have been delnonstrated as both desir-
able and necessary in the permanent revegetation seed mix.
2. They are most ideal for achieving a quick, temporary and
stabilizing vegetation cover,
