III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
999
Brown, Sandy
From: larry.declaire@state.co.us
Sent: Monday, July 10, 2000 1:11 PM
To: Mike.Grode@dowgrj.state.co.us
Cc: Ron.Velarde@dowgrj.state.co.us; tim.monahan@state.co.us; Sandy.Brown@state.co.us
Subject: Open records act request
Mike
I finally talked with Environmental Protection Specialist Sandy Brown from
the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology today. She advised that the
Edna Mine shut down operations in about 1995 and finished reclamation the
next year. At a bond release inspection last year, she says she saw a herd
of about 300 elk in an aspen grove on the property (that had not been mined)
and the surrounding reclaimed land. So it sounds like the elk population is
doing OK. She had nothing specific about migration.
She was unaware of any correspondence between the two state agencies
concerning elk and the mine, so I do not having any additional "leads" for
you to pursue concerning potential additional documents there may be in DOW
records. (I guess the two agencies have been communicating about grouse.)
Let me know if something that would fall within the scope of the request is
discovered.
Larry
