<br />_17_ <br />Pursuant to Rule 2.07.6(2)(e), the Division finds that the mining operation <br />will not adversely affect any publicly owned park or•place listed on the <br />National Register of Historic Places. <br />The proposed operation is in compliance with the requirements of this section. <br />IV. Geology - Rules 2.04.5 and 2.04.6(1) <br />Information on the geology of the area to be mined can be found in section <br />2.04.6 and Exhibit 6 and 7 of Volume I of the application. <br />The applicant has submitted geologic maps (Map 6) and geologic cross-sections <br />(Map 7) with the permit application. A general description of the geology of <br />the mine site can be found in the Description of the Environment and the <br />Probable Hydrologic Consequences and Cumulative Hydrologic Impacts Study <br />section of this findings document. <br />The proposed operation is in compliance with the requirements of this section. <br />V. Hydrologic Balance: Surface Water - Rules 2.04.5 <br />Information in the application on the quantity and quality of surface water in <br />the mine area can be found on page 2.04-8 and Exhibits 6 and 8 of Volume 1, <br />Exhibit 9 of Volume 2, and maps 8 and 9 of Volume 3, and in CF&I's October 12, <br />1982 response to the Division's Draft Findings. <br />Several drainages of varying size can be found within the Allen Mine permit <br />area. <br />The only major surface water drainage that is predicted to be affected by <br />surface disturbance associated with the mine is the Middle Fork of the <br />Purgatoire River. The Middle Fork of the Purgatoire River, a perennial <br />stream, flows through the middle of the sufface disturbance at the Allen <br />Mine. On the north side are approximately 38 acres of refuse material that <br />has been accumulating since the 1950's. Along the south bank are situated <br />most of the other surface facilities, including sediment ponds, a parking lot, <br />conveyor and coal storage facilities, storage yards and buildings, an office, <br />and a number of other facilities. Because of the immediate proximity of the <br />river and surface activities the potential for impacts on water quantity and <br />quality is fairly high. <br />Pete Canyon, Apache Canyon, and Ciruela Canyon are all tributaries to the <br />Purgatoire system within the permit area which contain either ephemeral or <br />intermittent streams. None of these drainages are impacted by the main <br />surface facilities area at the mine. Two air intake shaft sites are located <br />in the Left Fork of Apache Canyon. Apache, Left Fork of Apache and Pete <br />Canyons have all previously been undermined. Future development mining is <br />planned under Apache and Ciruela Canyons during this five year permit term and <br />under Pete Canyon during subsequent permit terms over the life of mine. <br />
