1
' The pipe will be manufactured with American Petroleum Institute (API) X65 or
X60 grade steel. The wall thickness of the pipe will likely be increased in areas of
road crossings to meet jurisdictional restraints and design criteria. Wall
thickness may be increased for added strength, workability, and safety at valves,
stream crossings, and road crossings. All pipes will have an external anti-
, corrosion coating of fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) applied under controlled
conditions at the pipe mill.
The minimum burial depth for the mainline pipes will be 30 inches from the top
of pipe, which is in accordance with 49 CFR Part 195. Minimum burial depths
' will be increased to 48 inches at public road crossings and to 60 inches below the
bottom of the restored streambed at stream crossings. Figure 2-1 shows the
proposed layout of the two pipes, including spacing and padding.
' • Valves: It is estimated that three full-conduit gate valves will be placed
along the pipeline. Valve spacing generally will be approximately 15 miles, with
' variations to meet applicable design codes. The valves will be buried below
ground in 6-foot corrugated conduit pipes and will be accessib'.e through a locked
box at ground level. These valves will be manually operated. Tha number and
' size of valves could change following completion of final design.
2.3 Pipeline Specifications
Both pipes (product line and return line) will be placed in a single trench. The
pipeline trench will be 72 to 80 inches wide and 54 to 60 inches deep. The two
' pipes will be spaced 24 inches apart. There will generally be 6 inches of bedding
under the pipe and 30 to 36 inches of soil above the pipe, depending on the
presence of rock substrate. At perennial stream crossings, the minimum burial
depths will be increased to 60 inches below the bottom of the restored streambed.
At public road crossings, the product and water return pipelines will be placed in
separate bores 10 feet apart, with the pipelines buried 48 inches deep.
' • Pipeline Corridor Dimensions
The pipeline construction ROW (construction easement) will generally be a
maximum of 125 feet wide to allow for operation of construction machinery,
placement of excavated materials, and movement of other pipeline construction
traffic along the pipeline corridor during pipeline construction. The
construction ROW may be less than the proposed 125-foot width in some areas to
' mitigate potential impacts to existing resources, and it may also overlap existing
pipeline corridors in certain locations. The permanent pipeline easement width
will be 50 feet.
1
' Pipelin lnfomuhon Summary 5
Yanks GWch Sodium Minerals Projvt
Amv¢an Soda, L.L.P.
