CMA
November 21, 2006
A Subsidiary of Peabody Energy Corporation
701 Market Street, Suite 700
St. Louis, MO 63101-1826
Contact: Brian Dunfee
Local Contact:
John Weinman
Hydro-Environmental Solutions, Inc.
P.O. Box 772996
Steamboat Springs, CO 80477
970-871-6125
The Hayden Gulch Terminal, Inc. (HGTI) is recognized for its persistence in meeting the
requirements for final bond release at the Hayden Gulch Mine and successfully achieving final
Phase III bond release.
The Hayden Gulch Mine was a surface coal mine located in Routt County that began operating
in 1978. Three hundred and sixty-two acres had been disturbed at the mine when mining ceased
in 1987. Reclamation was completed shortly thereafter. Phase II and Phase III bond release
were granted in 1999 upon completion of successful reclamation for most of the mine site. Four
pazcels of ground were reserved from the bond release for the establishment of enhanced shrub
azeas and the repair of a slump.
HGTI employed a number of techniques to enhance shrub establishment at the mine site
including mature transplants, shrub seedlings, and native seed. The shrub areas were protected
with 8-foot high durable fence to exclude elk, deer and antelope. Access to two permanent
impoundments for wildlife is provided. An underground drain system was installed to enhance
ground stability of the slump area.
HGTI is commended for the sustained effort, innovative procedures employed and diligence in
achieving final bond release at the Hayden Gulch Mine.
Please let me know of any questions or if you need anything further. Thank you for your ongoing
support of this valuable awazds program.
L~
Manager
Cc: Ronald W. Cattany, Director
DMG Coal Program
