The
three applications are the Iron Point Coal Exploration License application, (COC-61945), the Iron Point
Coal Lease Tract application, (COC-61209), and the Elk Creek Coal Lease Tract application, (COC-
61357). The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Forest Service reviewed and analyzed these
applications as part of the North Fork Coal Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The RODs
represent the culmination of this effort.
Please note that there are six separate RODS enclosed. The three applications were considered and
analyzed as part of one document. However, each agency has distinct and separate decisions to
make on each application, hence the six RODS. The decisions and required mitigation measures in
each ROD are specific to the individual application. To aid the reader's understanding of how each
application related to the scope of the effort, some of the supplementary information in the RODS (e.g.:
Public Involvement) refer to the whole document.
The North Fork Coal Working Group (NFCWG) is a community based group representing a broad
spectrum of interests in the North Fork Valley. The NFCWG has worked to address issues related to
growth and coal mining in the valley and to develop a vision for the community's future. The work of
the NFCWG is expected to continue into the future. Other interested members of the public are
encouraged to contact the NFCWG for current and specific information related to their efforts.
The agencies would like to express their thanks to those in the public who became involved. Your
input into the EIS process helped facilitate a more informed general public and a more informed
decision making process. Further information on the North Fork Coal EIS or these RODs can be
obtained by contacting Jerry Jones at the BLM Uncompahgre Field Office, 2505 S. Townsend Ave.,
Montrose, CO, 81401, telephone 970.240.5338, fax 970.240.5668, or a-mail Jerry_JonesC~co.blm.gov.
Respectfully,
Allan Belt
Field Office Manager
BLM Uncompahgre Field Office
iiiiiiiiiiiu iii
Robert L.
