Box 535
Somerset, CO 81434
Re: Somerset / Sanborn Creek Mines, File C-81-022, Transformer Oil
Spill Disposal
Dear Mr. Wright:
Subsequent to a phone conversation between Mr. Jim Stover and
myself on this date, I understand that the soil, contaminated with
transformer oil from the spill at the Bear Creek Canyon Substation,
has been disposed of at the North Fork Landfill.
The May 12, 1994 letter from Donna Stoner, Colorado Department of
Health - Industrial Hygienist, to Mr. Jim Stover, consultant to
Somerset Mining Company, confirms that the soil can be disposed of
at the North Fork Landfill at the discretion of the owner and/or
operator of that facility.
Please provide the Division with documentation proving that the
landfill operator accepted the contaminated soil and that the soil
was actually disposed of at that landfill.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Steve S. Shuey
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Jim Stover
