Letter To: Cathy Begej
December 30, 1986
Page 2
The proposed last segment of Ditch 113, which was removed during
reclamation activities and whose capacity was being questioned, is no
longer an issue here since the two existing terraces direct flows around
and away from this segment into the swale referred to above. There are no
longer any subwatersheds associated with that proposed ditch segment and
no flows being directed into that area.
This letter serves as notification of intention to temporarily cease
operations at the Hayden Gulch Mine. The total area of mining disturbance
in the permit area Ls 300 acres. 200 acres were revegetated prior to 1986
and 100 acres have been regraded, tops oiled, and seeded in 1985.
Monitoring of surface water runoff due to snowmelt, semi-annual ground
water monitoring, and the monitoring of discharge from the sedimentation
ponds will continue during the period of temporary cessation. Sediment
pond inspections will continue on a quarterly schedule.
Final reclamation activities are nearly complete with the exception of
projects which have not been finished due to the onset of winter
conditions. These activities will resume when weather conditions permit.
If you have any questions or require additional information, please do not
hesitate to call me at (208) 386-5690.
Sincerely,
,/~/~ia ,~JEa~ E
Gloria Beattie
Yampa Mining Company
GB/lab
Enclosures
cc: Rich Atkinson, H-G Coal Company
2323h/2
