D~~t. of Natural Resources
Re: Disposal of Non-Coal Wastes; CYCC Mines 1, 2 and Eckman Park
Permit 79-I77
Dear Sandy:
Pursuant to CMLRD's minor revision approval dated May 26, 1983
concerning the disposal of non-hazardous non-coal wastes in the Area 51
pit, the Colorado Yampa Coal Company is planning to deposit non-coal
wastes generated by each individual dragline into its own pit. This will
be done to reduce the amount of material transported and to eliminate the
possibility of windblown debris escaping during transFer to the
designated disposal site. The CYCC is also investigating the feasibility
of disposing garbage and waste paper into the Area 51 disposal pit.
ALl additional non-coal wastes generated by normal mining practices
will continue to be disposed of in the approved area.
Toxic, hazardous or radioactive wastes will not be disposed of on
the mine area. Since all current mining pits are on CYCC owned land, the
CYCC will also address several minimum standards in regards to solid
waste disposal For each individual pit as per our May 12, 1983 minor
revision request.
If there are any additional questions or concerns, please contact
Dave McMindes or myself at 303-879-3800.
Sincerely,
Richat~ rd H g
Environmental Specialist
RH/sk
cc: D.
