'F
APPENDIX F: ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
This pit has minimal impacts on surrounding wildlife and environment due to its remote location and
limited use. The pit has been identified by the Division of Wildlife (DOW) to be in the Greater-Sage
Grouse breading habitat, so a restriction on hours of operation will be implemented to protect nearby
lek activity. Flo activity will start in the pit until 9:00 a.m. and will stop by 6:00 p.m. from the beginning
of March through the end of June to minimize the noise disturbance during the peak lek attendance.
CDOT is also looking at removing unnecessary fence and will avoid using fence when possible to
avoid collision mortality and reduce perches for raptors.
The Department also recognizes the importance of minimizing impacts to the surrounding state
waterways,, so water pollution is controlled on site. These pollution controls consist of grading to
drain`fo local low points so that spills `can be coritairied on site' Because no fue~o~ other substances
are planned to be stored or stockpiled on site, water pollution is not expected to occur.
Grading and Erosion Control Best Management Practices (BMP's) shall consist of soil roughening for
erosion control and grading to drain to Iccalized basins (see attached map) for sediment control.
Because the material being exposed consists primarily of large grained particles, erosion is expected
to be negligible.
There are no hydrologic hazards-known or observed that are associated with this pit.
~. _ .. _ _ _
F ... t
