I looked at the opening on J anuary 11,
1999. The opening appears to be the result of a collapse in the adit/ incline which extends under
the opening. The opening is approximately 1 foot in diameter at the surface and bells out to
about 3 feet underground. The opening is approximately 2 feet deep. The bottom of the opening
does not extend into the original adiUincline. The opening is outside of the permit azetl specified
in permit M76-007.
It is the landowners' responsibility to safeguazd any mine opening on their property. Your plan
to backfill the opening is an acceptable closure method. Please be awaze that there could be
future problems in the azea if the mine continues to subside. The fill material should ~:onsist of
coazse rock. Caze should be taken to completely investigate the azea azound the opening to
insure that the opening is properly filled. The backfilling operation should not disrupt l:he
draining adit . Please contact me if you have further questions regazding the subsidence; feature.
Sincerely,
~~ r~~
/ ulie Mneaz
• roject Manager
