X15 559 6685 P.03i03
Mr. Steve Vandiver Page Two Mar h 3 2000
Given that no chemicals were put into the well piping and given the rapid rate
of corrosion at this location, and further given that this well had not encountered
similar problems in the past, Mr. Cooper is reasonably concerned that this unusual
and heavy corrosion has resulted from a contaminant originating upstream of the well
location and possibly from the Battle Mountain Gold property. As a result of the
corrosion, the well pipes were rcdeaned in August of 1999, but had large corrosion
'boils" as early as October of 1999. Some of those boils identified in October of
1999 were as large as five inches long, three inches aaoss, and a half inch in depth.
In order to turn the center pivot for the drele, the well must produce 800
gallons per minute. Shalom Ranch relies heavily upon the production of the alfalfa
grown within that circle in order to feed livestock raised on the Shalom Ranch.
Consistent and adequate production from this well is, therefore, absolutely vital to
the survival of the Ranch.
For these reasons, we request that immediate attention be duected to this
problem, that all deliberate efforts be made to identify the source of the o~ntaminant
resulting in this potentially devastating problem, and that complete remedial action
be taken to rectify the current problem and to solve the underlying cause of the
problem.
Sincerely,
DOUG G RGE
Attorney at Law
DG/pg
cc: Mr. Sandy Cooper
Shalom Ranch
Mr. Dean R Massey
Attorney for Battle Mountain Resources, lnc.
T6TAL P.03
