WILDLIFE
The application area is quite diverse in wildlife habitats. Although
the proposed lease area is primarily cam posed of the mountain shrub type
vegetative community, significant portions are also covered by pinyon-
juniper, pasture, and riparian types as well. The occurrence of this
relatively diverse vegetative structure in such a small area should
provide habitats for an abundant and comparitively rich faunal com-
ponent.
The proposed lease area is located in critical winter range for deer and
elk as evidenced by the observed hedging on browse species.
No listed Federal or State threatened or endangered animal species are
known to occur on the proposed lease area.
CULTUP,AL
A cultural resource inventory was conducted by Jaime Karlson of Fort
Lewis College. One historic site and one isolated find were recorded on
land owned by tir. Lawrence Huntington. Both resources were evaluated
and neither are considered eligible for inclusion in the National Register
• of Historic Places.
VISUAL RESOURCES
The area under consideration for leasing consists of a hilly plateau top
with portions of several steep drainages. The plateau top vegetation
has been chained. The drainages support a growth of pinyon and juniper
-trees. The scenic quality rating is B and the land surface is desig-
nated as VRM Class III.
RECREATION
This privately owned surface supports little recreation use. Presently
the land might be used by hunters during the hunting season.

T,
16
