page 2
._,
i
2.04.9 Soils Resource Information
2. The correct number will be clarifod with the SCS.
2.04.20 Vegetation Information ,le .: c. ,, +~~
9.15
Ultimately, three elements of reclamation must be satisfied in
order to meet revegetation success criteria. Adequate cover must
exist on revegetated areas to provide sufficient soil protection
for the reclamined sites. suitable species composition and adequate
productivity or density must also exist on reclaitn?d sites to insure
the availability of forage or shelter in order to satisfy the
proposed post mining land use of wildlife habitat. The reclaimed
area must exhibit a diverse, effective, and permanent vegetation
cover of the same seasonal variety native to the area, or species
that support the approved post mining land use (4.15.1(1)). This
vegetation Grover must consist of predominantly native species.
Baseline vegetative cover, species car~~osition, productivity, and
density data collected in the reference areas will provide eongxr-
able data for determining revegetation success on disturbed areas
at a later date. The sampling methodology proposed will be able
to be repeated on revegetated areas with little difficulty. The
criteria that will be used to determine revegetation success are
listed below:
herbaceous cover and productivity, species diversity and woody
plant density on the reclaimed surface shall be related to the
herbaceous cover and productivity, species diversity and woody
plant density of livinq plants on the approved reference areas as
described below. In addition, the vegeW tion on the reclaimed
area shall be of the same seasonal variety native to the area of
disturbed land.
Herbaceous Dover of the revegetated area shall be considered
acceptable if:
(a) For herbaceous vegetation ccrtmunities, cover of the re-
vegetated area shall beat least 90~ of the cover as determined
from the reference area with 908 statistical confidence. A
higher percentage of herbaceous cover than existed before mining
is practicable and is desirable for reducing erosion.
(b) For woody vegetation cc~rmunities, cover of the revege-
tated area shall be at least 902 of the cover as determined from
the reference area with 80$ statistical confidence.
herbaceous productivity of the revegetated area shall be
considered acceptable if:
