In the more competent ground,
rock bolts with steel mats will be the more prevalent ground support system.
When the decline bottoms out on the ore horizon (approximately one year) ,
development drifting will continue in the general direction of the ventilation
bore hole location and then continue on into the ore body.
Mining
Once the development has progressed into the ore body, the ore will
be mined by a modified room-and-pillar system. This method is very
similar to that presently being used throughout the Uravan Mineral Belt,
i .e. leaving ore and waste pillars wherever necessary and installing rock
bolts and steel mats for roof support.
Ore thickness in some areas will be too thin to carry the full
height of the heading so a method called "split shooting" will be used.
This involves removing the waste first by drilling, blasting and mucking,
and then repeating the process for the ore.
Ventilation
During the driving of the..decline and the development drift to the
ventilation bore hole location, fresh air will •be delivered by a surface
fan to the working face via a ventilation tube. After the ventilation
bore hole is upreamed, secondary ventilation systems will be established
as required for the stopes and development headings.
Levels of radon daughter concentrations will be monitored and records
kept in accordance with MSHA regulations. In addition, the ventilation
-5-
